Police log: Egging spree, bear up a tree, DUI, Pride parade and more

Park City police and Summit County sheriff’s deputies responded to a range of notable incidents during the week of May 25-31, including a rash of egging complaints, a bear stuck in a tree, two DUI arrests and a violent assault at a Park City apartment complex.

Sunday, May 25

Incident: Egging

A caller on Holiday Ranch Loop Road reported her house and car had been egged and said she found the carton the eggs came from.

Incident: Unsafe driving

A third-party caller reported a black Suburban passing another vehicle at approximately 60 mph in a turning lane near Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard.

Incident: Egging

A caller near the 7-Eleven on Park Avenue reported two juveniles on a bike throwing eggs at his vehicle.

Incident: Disturbing the peace

A caller reported people in a hot tub being loud on Lowell Avenue, said to have occurred the previous two nights as well.

Wednesday, May 27

Incident: Unsafe driving

A caller reported a black Jeep swerving on Sidewinder Drive and nearly striking another vehicle near Sammy’s Bistro.

Thursday, May 28

Incident: Bear in a tree

Officers deployed a drone in the Buffalo Bill Drive area in an attempt to coax a bear down from a tree.

Incident: Hit and run

A witness reported watching a Honda CRV back into a parked vehicle on Park Avenue and drive away. The incident had a reported time lapse of five minutes.

Incident: Egging

A caller near the China Bridge bus stop reported kids throwing eggs from a balcony at the Old Town Transit Center.

Incident: Unsafe driving

A silver Chevrolet with Montana plates was reported as a possibly impaired driver heading eastbound on US-40.

Incident: Non-injury accident

A caller reported a non-injury accident on Snow Creek Drive involving a gray Nissan Rogue. The other vehicle had left the scene.

Friday, May 29

Incident: Egging

A woman told officers she spotted eggs near the Park City Library while following up on a prior egging report.

Incident: Trespassing

Officers received multiple trespassing complaints on Royal Street East, with a caller reporting bikers climbing the stairs on her private property and damaging the steps with their cleats. She said she had video footage of the incidents.

Incident: DUI

A DUI stop was made on SR-224 near Saddleview.

Incident: Possible gunshot

A caller on Park Avenue reported hearing what he believed was a single gunshot, saying he was “pretty confident” about what he heard and also reported seeing a light coming from behind a tree. Officers responded to investigate.

Saturday, May 30

Incident: Road hazard

A caller reported a strip of asphalt had been cut out of SR-248 near mile marker 2, leaving a gap roughly 8 to 10 inches wide and 4 to 5 inches deep. The caller expressed concern about motorcyclists hitting it.

Incident: Party at vacant home

A caller reported a party taking place at what she believed was a vacant home on Claim Jumper Court.

Incident: Non-injury accident

A white Porsche was reported on a curb at Aerie Drive and Deer Valley Drive.

Sunday, May 31

Incident: Public urination

A caller reported seven men drinking and urinating in public near a bench on Prospector Avenue.

Incident: Unsafe driving

A silver Toyota Camry was reported driving recklessly into oncoming traffic near Kearns Boulevard and Bonanza Drive.

Incident: Disorderly conduct

A man was reported screaming profanities outside the No Name Saloon. A rowdy party with drinking and yelling was also reported on Aspen Springs Drive in the early morning hours. Later that morning, a man was reported attempting to distribute beer to strangers at the Old Town Transit Center. Officers were also called to a business after a man was seen yelling and making obscene gestures at staff.

Incident: DUI

Summit County sheriff’s deputies stopped a speeding vehicle on Tech Center Drive near Overland Drive, made contact with the occupants and observed signs of impairment. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests, was arrested and transported to jail. The vehicle was impounded.

Incident: Assault

Deputies responded to Canyon Creek Apartments on Bitner Road after a caller reported a man in psychiatric distress who said he wanted to “damage someone.” The subject fled on foot when deputies made contact. After a foot pursuit and deployment of less-lethal munitions, the subject was apprehended. He was booked on two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of threats of violence, two counts of trespassing, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

A separate domestic violence-related assault case resulted in a booking on two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of assault and one count of interruption of a communication device.

Incident: Pride Parade

Officers provided traffic control and scene security for Park City’s Pride Parade. The parade began at the Park City Mountain Resort parking lot and proceeded down Empire Avenue to 15th Street, then along Park Avenue to City Park. No issues were reported.
