TownLift® is Park City and Summit County’s trusted source for local news. We cover the stories that shape everyday life here—whether it’s a powder day announcement, a road closure, a lost dog, or a city council decision that could affect your neighborhood. If it matters to the people who live and work here, it matters to us.

We don’t chase national headlines or editorial & opinion content. We focus on what’s happening right here, right now—in the mountains, on Main Street, and across the communities that make this place so special.

We’re a local newsroom built from the ground up by people who’ve bumped chairs, waited tables, raised families, and made lives here in the Wasatch Back.

Who Owns TownLift®?

TownLift® is locally owned by Brian Modena, who has spent over 20+ years living in mountain towns, including Park City, Utah. Brian launched TownLift in 2020 to give Park City a modern, local-first news outlet—one that stays accountable to the community. He is dedicated to amplifying local voices and stories while sharing his passion for mountain town communities and outdoor adventure.

Editorial Standards & Ethics

TownLift is an independent, locally owned newsroom. Our job is to report accurately and fairly on what’s happening in Park City, Summit County and the Wasatch Back, and to be open about how we do it.

  • Accuracy first. We verify information before we publish it, attribute facts to their sources, and link to public records, agendas and documents whenever we can. When information is still developing, we say so.
  • Fairness. When a story makes a claim about a person or organization, we make a good-faith effort to reach them for comment before publishing.
  • Independence. Advertisers, sponsors, members and partners do not decide what we cover or how we cover it.
  • Sponsored content is always labeled. Paid content is published under the “Sponsored” category and carries the sponsor’s name in the byline. It is created by or for the sponsor and is not written or endorsed by our newsroom.
  • Partner and wire content. Some stories come from other news partners such as The Associated Press, Neighbors of the Wasatch Back and Utah News Dispatch, and are credited in the byline.
  • News, not opinion. TownLift does not publish editorials or endorse candidates. Community voices appear in reader comments and clearly labeled submissions.
  • Use of AI. Our reporting is researched, written and edited by people. We use AI tools for support tasks, such as digesting 200 page public meeting agendas, suggesting headline variations for an editor to review and generating the discussion question at the end of some stories.

Corrections

We work hard to get it right, and when we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly.

  • Factual errors are corrected in the story as soon as they’re confirmed, with a note at the bottom of the article explaining what changed and when (for example, “Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the date of the hearing.”).
  • Updates that add new information to a developing story are marked with an “Updated” note and time, and the article shows its last-updated date.
  • Minor fixes such as spelling, grammar or formatting that don’t change the meaning of a story may be made without a note.
