PARK CITY, Utah — A young American black bear was safely tranquilized and relocated Thursday morning after climbing a tree in Park City’s Prospector neighborhood.

Officers with the Park City Police Department responded after the bear was spotted in a residential area and remained in the tree as authorities assessed the situation.
Police contacted wildlife officers and biologists with the Utah Department of Natural Resources, who responded to determine the safest way to remove the animal.
The Park City Fire District also assisted at the scene by deploying a ladder truck, allowing wildlife officials to safely tranquilize the bear while it remained in the tree.

Authorities have not released additional details about where the bear will be relocated.
Black bear sightings are not uncommon in the Wasatch Back, especially during spring and early summer as younger bears disperse and search for food sources. Wildlife officials regularly remind residents to secure trash, avoid leaving pet food outdoors, and remove other attractants that can draw bears into populated areas.
No injuries to the bear or responding personnel were reported.
