Police Log: Man tries to enter hotel rooms, resident reports being followed, and injured duck

A man reportedly tried to enter hotel guest rooms claiming he was conducting “room audits,” while a resident said she was followed home by a truck and another caller reported a dog attacking a duck. Police also responded to reports of suspicious activity, property damage, and several traffic hazards throughout the week.

Other calls included a hit-and-run, graffiti, and complaints about drinking and littering along the Rail Trail.

Monday, Sept. 7

Incident: Suspicious activity
A Starbucks employee reported a vehicle that had been parked in front of the business for more than an hour in the early morning. The employee was unsure why it was there.

Incident: Graffiti
Graffiti was reported in the men’s locker room at a business on Marsac Avenue.

Incident: Hit and run
A vehicle was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run on Lowell Avenue.

Incident: Property damage
A driver reported that a tire had been slashed with what appeared to be a ninja star stuck in it. The vehicle was taken to Burt Brothers for repairs.

Tuesday, Sept. 8

Incident: Citizen assist
A caller reported two men digging with shovels along the side of her yard for Comcast. She said she had not been notified that workers would be there.

Incident: Abandoned vehicle
A vehicle had reportedly been parked near an air machine on Park Avenue for four days.

Incident: Non-injury accident
Two vehicles were involved in a non-injury accident on Kearns Boulevard. The crash was not blocking traffic, but one of the vehicles required a tow.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A resident reported two door-to-door salespeople who were reportedly rude and pushy. The pair, a man and woman wearing matching blue clothing, left without a vehicle being seen.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

Incident: Traffic hazard
A traffic light at Park Avenue and Deer Valley Drive was reportedly not cycling properly for vehicles turning left onto Deer Valley Drive. The caller said the light had cycled six times without providing a left-turn signal.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A woman reported that a truck followed her home, tailgating her along the way before pulling in front of different houses and appearing to watch her.

Thursday, Sept. 10

Incident: Vagrancy
A delivery driver reported what appeared to be a homeless man camping at the top of the stairs of a restaurant on Main Street.

Incident: Property damage
A resident reported that neighborhood children threw rocks at his car the previous day, cracking the windshield. The resident said the children’s parents were unwilling to address the damage when confronted.

Incident: Parking problem
Tour bus drivers were advised to move their vehicles after reportedly stopping in the middle of Main Street near Fifth Street.

Friday, Sept. 11

Incident: Suspicious activity
A resident reported seeing a suspicious man on a security camera on the side deck of a home. No one was supposed to be on the property.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Incident: Vagrancy
A vehicle had reportedly been parked for four days in a handicap space on the east side of the liquor store parking lot on Snow Creek Drive. The vehicle’s windows were blocked.

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was stopped for using a cellphone while driving on Monitor Drive.

Incident: Citizen assist
A resident reported that a drone had been hovering between her house and a neighbor’s house throughout the morning. She said the drone was extremely loud.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A man reportedly attempted to enter guest rooms at a hotel on Lowell Avenue, claiming he was there to conduct “room audits.”

Incident: Suspicious activity
A resident who was out of town reported that a neighbor saw someone shining a flashlight into her kitchen window.

Incident: Intoxication
A person dressed entirely in black was reportedly running up Main Street, yelling at servers.

Sunday, Sept. 13

Incident: Hit and run
A vehicle was reportedly hit while parked in the Gateway parking garage. The incident occurred sometime during the previous 12 hours, and the suspect vehicle was unknown.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A dog was reportedly seen attacking a duck. The duck appeared to be badly injured.

Incident: Illegal dumping
A caller reported someone illegally dumping metal scraps into dumpsters on private property. She approached the man and told him he could not dump the material there.

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was stopped after an officer saw a child’s head poking through the sunroof while the vehicle was moving. The driver was cited for failing to properly secure the child.

Incident: Littering
Three men were reported drinking on the Rail Trail near Prospector Avenue. The caller said the men were part of an ongoing issue involving litter and discarded beer cans along the trail.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported a side-by-side speeding up and down Queen Esther Drive without headlights and making excessive noise.
