Police Log: Stolen car tracked by AirPods, fall foliage crowds descend on Guardsman, and ice cream truck plays for 3 hours

A stolen vehicle tracked to Murray using AirPods, heavy fall foliage traffic at Bonanza Flat, and an ice cream truck playing music for three hours highlighted another busy week for law enforcement in Summit County.

Park City police also responded to a herd of elk on SR 224, a boulder that rolled into the roadway, a concrete truck spill, and a report of someone selling dogs on lower Main Street.

Monday, Sept. 21

Incident: Utility problem
A possible water main break was reported near Park Avenue and Empire Avenue. The caller said water was spraying high into the air and into the intersection.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A man was reportedly hiding in the trees with a backpack in White Pine Canyon.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A caller reported that an ice cream truck had been playing its music for about three hours and was disrupting the caller’s work.

Incident: Hit-and-run
A vehicle on Main Street reportedly hit another car and drove away.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

Incident: Parking violation
A vehicle was reportedly parked on the sidewalk on Park Avenue for several days. The caller also said it was parked in an area subject to the 2–6 a.m. parking restriction.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A baby moose was reported in a yard on Piper Way, where it had reportedly been for several hours.

Wednesday, Sept. 23

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported that construction had blocked the road above the Town Lift plaza and that no flaggers were present.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle was captured on a Ring camera on Telemark Drive.

Incident: Non-injury accident
A vehicle was reportedly rear-ended on Snow Creek Drive. Both vehicles remained on scene after pulling into the Zion Bank parking lot.

Incident: Traffic hazard
A boulder had rolled into the roadway on Sidewinder Drive and was sitting in the gutter. The caller said two people should be able to move it back into place.

Incident: Traffic hazard
A caller reported about 50 production trucks trying to turn into a studio near Mile Marker 3 on SR 248 and requested an officer assist with traffic.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A sick deer was reported in a backyard. The caller said it might need to be dispatched.

Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle after receiving a complaint about its driving pattern and a possible road rage incident. After field sobriety tests showed signs of impairment, the driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail for DUI.

Incident: Vehicle theft
A vehicle was reported stolen from a parking lot at 1612 W. Ute Blvd. The owner was able to track the vehicle to Murray using AirPods left inside. Murray police located the vehicle and arrested a suspect after a brief foot pursuit. The suspect also reportedly used the victim’s credit cards at a convenience store where the vehicle was located.

Thursday, Sept. 24

Incident: Property damage
A driver reportedly crashed into a pole near Peace House after swerving to avoid hitting an animal the night before.

Incident: Traffic hazard
One of two traffic lights at Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard was reported to be out.

Friday, Sept. 25

Incident: Wildlife problem
An officer encountered a herd of elk on SR 224 near Mile Marker 8 and used headlights and an air horn to move them toward the sides of the road.

Incident: Traffic hazard
A concrete truck reportedly spilled concrete near Meadows Drive and SR 224. The driver was attempting to shovel it up.

Incident: Traffic stop
A vehicle was stopped after a blue light was reportedly visible from the front of the vehicle on Heber Avenue and Main Street.

Saturday, Sept. 26

Incident: Parking enforcement
Officers assisted parking enforcement and Trails and Open Space staff with heavy traffic in the Bonanza Flat area. Numerous parking issues were addressed.

Incident: Citizen dispute
A caller on Park Avenue reported being assaulted after a woman pushed her.

Incident: Traffic hazard
A line of vehicles was reportedly waiting to enter a parking lot near Blood Lake, blocking traffic on SR 224 near Mile Marker 1.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A caller reported someone selling dogs on lower Main Street, with a large crowd gathering around the area.

Sunday, Sept. 27

Incident: Hit-and-run
A caller reported that someone hit her vehicle while it was parked on Park Avenue overnight and left the scene. The rear-left bumper was damaged and had numerous black marks.

Incident: Motorist assist
A vehicle broke down on Marsac Avenue and was reportedly leaking fluid onto the ground.
