Major I-80 bridge replacement at Jeremy Ranch begins in August

PARK CITY, Utah — Drivers who use Interstate 80 between Park City and Salt Lake City should prepare for another major construction project, as the Utah Department of Transportation begins replacing the aging eastbound and westbound bridges at the Jeremy Ranch interchange.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early August and continue through summer 2027.

The project is part of UDOT’s broader effort to modernize I-80 through Parleys Canyon and Summit County, replacing aging infrastructure while minimizing long-term disruptions.

What drivers can expect

To reduce impacts on freeway traffic, UDOT will use Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), a method that allows crews to build the new bridges adjacent to the existing ones before sliding them into place during short freeway closures.

The approach is intended to shorten the overall construction timeline and reduce the length of major traffic disruptions.

During construction, motorists can expect:

  • Lane closures on Homestead Road
  • Periodic traffic shifts
  • Construction impacts Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Homestead Trail will be shifted to the road
  • Increased noise, dust and vibration for nearby residents

The most significant impacts won’t come until spring 2027, when UDOT plans up to two weekend-long full closures of I-80 at Jeremy Ranch to remove the old bridges and slide the new structures into place. Exact dates will be announced closer to the closures.

ABC Method in action

Why the bridges are being replaced

The Jeremy Ranch bridges are more than 50 years old and have reached the point where replacement is more cost-effective than continued repairs. The new bridges are expected to provide a smoother ride, improve long-term reliability, and reduce future maintenance needs along, according to UDOT.

The bridge project is one of several major UDOT initiatives underway in the Wasatch Back. Along with the Jeremy Ranch reconstruction, crews are repaving sections of I-80 through Parleys Canyon, upgrading bridges elsewhere along the corridor, and supporting future transportation improvements throughout Summit County.

UDOT encourages travelers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time through the work zone and sign up for project updates as construction progresses.
