Park City School District names Caleb Fine as interim superintendent

Former junior high principal and Park City High School graduate takes the reins, pledges focus on student safety and equity

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City School District Board of Education announced Caleb Fine as the interim superintendent during its meeting on Sept. 17. Fine, a longtime Park City resident and 2004 graduate of Park City High School, steps into the role effective immediately. The announcement came after the retirement notice of former PCSD superintendent Jill Gildea.

Gildea, appointed superintendent in 2018, informed the board of her decision to retire despite extending her contract through June 2026 just a month earlier. Gildea’s departure came amid reports from The Salt Lake Tribune on Sept. 5 that she had been searching for jobs and may not have notified the board “promptly,” as her contract required.

Fine, previously the principal of Treasure Mountain Junior High School, addressed the community in a welcome video, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining the district’s strong teaching foundation and addressing key issues. “Our incredible teachers will continue pouring into caring for and educating our amazing students,” he said.

Fine outlined his priorities during the interim period, focusing on upholding the standards of the Office of Civil Rights resolution agreement.

He stressed the importance of eliminating hate speech and discrimination, stating that “racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, and all other forms of discrimination and hate speech have no place in the Park City School District.”
