Wasatch County SAR performs multiple rescues in Strawberry area

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — Wasatch County Search and Rescue teams rescued four snowmobilers stranded in the Strawberry River area amid heavy snowfall yesterday.

A 911 caller reported four snowmobiles buried in the snow approximately 3:23 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The snowmobilers had spent several hours trying to get out, but were unsuccessful.

“All 4 individuals were in great shape and evacuated to the trailhead with some unforgettable memories to start the new year,” said a statement from Wasatch County SAR.

The rescue took 2.5 hours to complete.

Wasatch County SAR teams also assisted two ice fisherman stranded on Strawberry Reservoir on December 31 at around 6:19 p.m.

According to the Wasatch County SAR, the two individuals had been trying for three hours to get back to their car in the reservoir parking lot, but the snow was too deep for their Snowdog machine.

Wasatch County SAR was able to assist the individuals back to the parking lot, and found another stranded fisherman in the process who they helped to get back to the trailhead. The rescue took three hours to complete.
