New Jiu Jitsu Studio Opens in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah. — Caught in an exercise rut? There’s a new option for getting your fitness on in town: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the new Gracie Barra academy in Pinebrook.

Co-owners Ignacio Rosenberg and Randi Strong are excited to expand the martial arts offerings in Park City and the Summit County area.

“Jiu Jitsu allows students to develop greater confidence and empowers them to stay calm in difficult situations,” Strong said. “More than summoning all your energy and strength, it’s truly about calmly thinking things through by using your brain instead of your muscle. Jiu Jitsu emphasizes the journey of personal growth rather than the end goal. From the design and flow of our school to the feel and the lighting, I am proud of the environment we are building.”

Ancelmo Sobrinho, head professor at the studio, is a regional, national and international Jiu Jitsu title-winner from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sobrinho moved to Utah in 2018 and became enamored with the mountains and the passion for fitness and wellness that Parkites are known for.

“Jiu Jitsu is the most special part of my life,” Sobrinho said. “It’s a privilege to work on a social project that emphasizes education through sport.”

Free trials are now being offered for Jiu Jitsu-curious residents. For more info, check out the academy’s website here.
