SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A brush fire near Interstate 80 in Heiners Canyon, about eight miles east of Echo Junction, was quickly contained Thursday evening after prompting a multi-agency response and temporary traffic impacts.
Firefighters were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the Heiners Canyon Fire near westbound I-80 at mile marker 174, according to North Summit Fire District. The fire burned approximately one acre between the Union Pacific railroad tracks and the interstate.
Crews from the North Summit Fire District, Morgan County Fire Department, South Summit Fire District, and Park City Fire District responded to the scene and worked together to contain the fire.
During suppression efforts, railroad traffic was temporarily halted so firefighters could safely extinguish the blaze. Westbound I-80 was reduced to a single lane while crews worked in the area.
The fire has since been fully contained, according to the North Summit Fire District.
With hot, dry and windy conditions continuing across northern Utah, fire officials are urging the public to avoid activities that could spark a wildfire and to report any signs of smoke immediately.
