COALVILLE, Utah — The County Courthouse in Coalville was temporarily placed on lockdown Monday after an individual allegedly made threatening statements that referenced gun violence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on June 8, sheriff’s deputies were notified of a confrontational individual inside the courthouse who had become disruptive with employees. During the incident, the individual allegedly made statements that staff perceived as threatening and referenced gun violence.
Courthouse employees followed established safety procedures and initiated a lockdown of the building while law enforcement responded.
Deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper who was nearby at the time of the call, located the individual outside the courthouse.
Following an investigation, the individual was detained and later arrested. Authorities said no firearms were found on the individual.
No injuries were reported, and the lockdown was lifted after deputies determined there was no immediate threat to public safety.
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the identity of the individual or information regarding potential charges.
