Police Log: Officers respond to car event speeding, a Main Street argument, and suspicious drone activity

This week’s police log included everything from a hit-and-run and suspected vehicle fire to a gas line strike, injured wildlife, and several late-night noise complaints.

Sunday brought several of the week’s more notable calls, as police increased enforcement following speeding complaints on Deer Valley Drive during a nearby car event, de-escalated an argument involving a large crowd near Main Street, and received a report of a suspicious drone hovering near a resident’s backyard.

Monday, Aug. 17

Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle on Ute Boulevard for traffic violations. The driver was suspected of impairment, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested and booked for a first-offense DUI.

Incident: Hit and run
A vehicle was reported to have struck another car at the Round Valley Drive roundabout before leaving the scene toward the hospital.

Incident: Vehicle fire
A Chrysler minivan parked on Small Crescent Road was reported smoking, though no flames were visible and no one appeared to be inside.

Tuesday, Aug. 18

Incident: Lost property
A caller reported that a key found by someone else had been turned in to KPCW but was no longer there.

Incident: Property-damage accident
A driver reported striking a deer on SR-224 near the red and white gates.

Incident: Unwanted person
A caller reported an individual was inside their grandmother’s residence and was not supposed to be there.

Wednesday, Aug. 19

Incident: Utility gas
A gas service line to a home was struck on Red Cloud Trail. A backhoe was on scene, equipment was shut off, and Enbridge had been notified.

Incident: Traffic stop
Police stopped a vehicle at Lucky John Drive and Little Kate Road after it reportedly ran a stop sign.

Incident: Attempt to locate
A silver Land Cruiser was reported speeding downhill on SR-224 and passing another vehicle on a blind curve.

Thursday, Aug. 20

Incident: Disturbing the peace
About 10 to 12 people were reported drinking, smoking, and being extremely loud outside the entrance to City Park in the early morning hours.

Incident: Vagrancy
A man was reported sleeping inside a small red structure resembling an old bus stop along Kearns Boulevard.

Friday, Aug. 21

Incident: Parking problem
Cars parked on both sides of Oak Wood Drive were reported creating a visibility and traffic hazard.

Incident: Wildlife problem
An injured deer was reported hopping around on three legs on Calumet Circle.

Incident: Animal bite
A caller reported that a friend had been bitten by a dog on Main Street and that the dog’s owner was refusing to take responsibility.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A resident reported noticing a neighbor’s door standing open for several hours.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A group of people were reported drinking, playing basketball, and making excessive noise near the courts at Aspen Villa Apartments.

Saturday, Aug. 22

Incident: Traffic stop
Police stopped a vehicle on SR-224 after paint on the windshield was reported obstructing the driver’s view.

Incident: Electrical utility
A caller reported lights repeatedly blinking on and off in a room at the Park City Hotel for two days.

Sunday, Aug. 23

Incident: Suspicious activity
A caller reported men inside the basement of her Main Street business and believed they may have had an access code.

Incident: Disorderly conduct
Police responded to a large crowd in the road near Heber Avenue and Park Avenue where people were arguing. The situation was de-escalated.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A driver was reported parking against a curb and nearly backing into another truck on Empire Avenue.

Incident: Traffic enforcement
Police conducted traffic enforcement on Deer Valley Drive after receiving several complaints about speeding during a car event in the area.

Incident: Hit and run
A driver reported being cut off near the Fresh Market, resulting in bumper damage. The other driver reportedly left after being asked to exchange information.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A resident on High Street reported a drone hovering near the backyard and facing the home with its camera.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A deer with an apparent broken leg was reported near the intersection of Little Kate Road and Evening Star Drive.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
Two women were reported being extremely loud on a top-floor balcony on Empire Avenue late at night.
