Park City Mountain pulls the plug on Mountain Village this weekend

On Saturday, March 28, the Payday and Crescent lifts will run for the last time. Sunday, March 29 will mark the final day for the First Time and 3 Kings lifts.

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Mountain will wind down operations at Mountain Village this weekend, with the final lifts spinning Sunday, March 29, nearly three weeks ahead of the resort’s originally scheduled closing date of April 19. The closure comes on the same day Deer Valley Resort also announced it will close for the season, marking a rare moment where both of Park City’s major ski destinations call it a winter on the same day.

The back-to-back announcements cap a season that was bookended by weather challenges at both mountains. Park City Mountain delayed its opening from November 21 to December 5 after unseasonably warm temperatures and limited early snowfall left the mountain without enough coverage to open safely.

Deer Valley opened the following day, December 6. Combined with the early spring closure, Park City Mountain’s 2025-26 season will run approximately 114 days, compared to the 149-day season the resort had planned, a difference of 35 days.

At both resorts, the compressed season wasn’t just about the bookends. Terrain expansion lagged into January across the region, with Deer Valley reaching near-full operations only in late February. That peak was brief. By early to mid-March, warming temperatures had already begun pulling lifts offline at both mountains.

Deer Valley Resort President and COO Todd Bennett acknowledged the difficulty of the season in a statement Thursday, noting his team had opened nearly 100 new runs and eight new lifts, part of the resort’s historic expansion, while navigating what he described as the lowest snowfall in Utah history.

Park City Mountain credited its own operations staff for extending the season as long as conditions allowed.

“After a winter of unique weather and truly exceptional work from our mountain operations team to deliver the best ski and ride season possible, Mother Nature said it’s time to start winding down Mountain Village,” the resort said in a statement.

The Mountain Village wind-down follows a two-day schedule. On Saturday, March 28, the Payday and Crescent lifts will run for the last time. Sunday, March 29 will mark the final day for the First Time and 3 Kings lifts. One bright spot for Mountain Village visitors: the Mountain Coaster will remain open into next week, conditions permitting.

Skiers and riders looking to extend their season still have one option. Park City Mountain’s Canyons Village will remain open, and the resort says it plans to keep that side running as long as conditions allow. No final closing date for Canyons Village has been announced.
