Stacy Bernal starts candidacy for state Senate District 3

OGDEN, Utah – Stacy Bernal has formally announced her bid for the Senate in Utah’s third district, covering sections of Morgan, Summit, and Weber Counties. This district includes various towns in Summit County, such as Wanship, Pineview, Coalville, Echo, Henefer and Castle Rock.

Bernal stated that her campaign will emphasize connecting individuals’ personal experiences with political engagement, centering around principles of service, resilience, and fairness.

Bernal is set to challenge John Johnson, the current Republican state Senator who has held the position since 2021.

“Our residents and families are rightfully concerned with real issues – paying bills, feeding their kids, and keeping their families safe. They’re not concerned with political points or culture wars. They deserve better,” Bernal said.

A member of the Ogden school board, Bernal has had experiences making tough decisions, including raising taxes due to a $2 million shortfall for special education funding.

Articulating her life experiences of working through college as a single mother, navigating the special education system with her son and starting her own business, Bernal believes she can bring a unique perspective to the state legislature.

“I know what it’s like to have struggled as a single mother, working multiple jobs to support my family. I actually understand the experiences of the voters and families in our district. My experience is not unique, but in the legislature, it would be,” Bernal said.

In addition to her service on the Ogden School Board, Bernal is active in the Ogden community, founding Awesome Autistic Ogden in 2018 and collaborating with the Ogden Police Department in 2022 to implement an autism registry database.
