Health Dept. Hosting Virtual Open House On County Diabetes Programs

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah. — The Summit County Health Department is hosting a free virtual “Open House” at noon on Dec. 8th for people interested in learning more about the diabetes awareness, prevention and self-management programming the county has to offer. Summit County Health Educator SaRene Brooks, who will be leading the open house, holds a wealth of knowledge when it comes to disease prevention and management; her father had Type 1 diabetes, she raised two children with Type 1 diabetes, is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and a Registered Dietitian (RD).

“Please take this time to learn more about diabetes,” Brooks said in an interview. “If you know someone who is impacted by diabetes, ask them how you can support and help them.”

Brooks recommends everyone take a free pre-diabetes risk test to assess whether or not they are at risk for diabetes, after all 1 in 3 American adults has prediabetes, according to the CDC.

You can RSVP to the event on Facebook and tune into the Zoom event at noon on Dec. 8 using this link. If you have any questions, contact Brooks at sbrooks@summitcounty.org
