Council approves $3.6 million deal to finish work by summer 2026, minimizing impact on local businesses

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City is accelerating the Main Street water line replacement project. The city aims to complete the work by summer 2026 while minimizing the impact on local businesses and pedestrians.

The ‘what’: City Council approved a $3.6 million contract with Silver Spur Construction to fast-track the replacement of the Main Street water line, responding to concerns from local businesses about summer disruptions.

The ‘why’: A survey taken by Main Street businesses, represented by the Historic Park City Alliance (HPCA), showed 64% of respondents favored speeding up the work to reduce sidewalk closures during peak tourist months.

Details:

• Construction to start Sept. 30, focusing on the stretch from 5th Street to Swede Alley. There will be minimal sidewalk closures until Nov. 20.
• Work will resume in March 2025 and continue in stages until completion by July 2026.
• The city will keep sidewalk closures minimal and complete street work before peak summer traffic each year.

Silver Spur, who finished the project’s first phase under budget, was retained without a new bidding process. The city’s Water Capital Improvement Plan funds the project through water service fees.
