A new chapter: Summit County Library opens its doors at PEAK Center

The Kimball Junction branch welcomes patrons back after its move from the Richins Building, with regular hours and book returns resuming Wednesday.
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Summit County Library’s Kimball Junction branch will reopen Wednesday, Nov. 4, at its new home inside the PEAK Center, marking the completion of its move from the Sheldon Richins Building.
The library announced the reopening on social media, welcoming patrons back after several weeks of closure while staff relocated the collection and prepared the new space.
The branch, located at 6301 N. Landmark Drive, will resume regular hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Book drops will also reopen, allowing patrons who have been holding on to borrowed materials during the transition to return them.
The Summit County Library’s relocation to the PEAK Center is part of a larger county effort to consolidate public services in the former Skullcandy headquarters. The renovated building is designed to accommodate the library, Division of Motor Vehicles services, Summit County Council meeting space, conference rooms, and county offices.
Community members got an early look at the building during the Oct. 3 PEAK Center celebration and community Book Brigade, when residents formed a human chain to transfer selected books from the Richins Building to the new location.
The library’s public opening was subsequently delayed while construction on the first floor was completed and the necessary occupancy approval was obtained.
Summit County purchased the former Skullcandy building for $17.5 million in May 2024. The PEAK Center renovation project is part of the county’s broader transition of services from the Richins Building as redevelopment plans move forward in western Kimball Junction.
Patrons can find updated branch hours and additional information on the Summit County Library website.
