When will Utah election results be available? Here’s what voters should know

Summit County will release preliminary results Tuesday night, with additional votes counted Wednesday and official county results expected Nov. 17.
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Voters across Utah will begin seeing election results Tuesday night, Nov. 3, but the first numbers released will be preliminary, with additional ballots counted in the days that follow.
The Summit County Clerk’s Office plans to publish unofficial election results Tuesday night on the Summit County homepage and at the top of the Clerk’s elections page.
According to the county’s 2026 general election guidance, in-person votes cast on Election Day and ballots deposited in drop boxes after noon Tuesday will be included in an updated unofficial count released Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Additional updates will be posted as ballots are tabulated, meaning totals may continue to change after Election Day.
Why aren’t election night results final?
Election night results reflect ballots that have been processed and counted at the time of reporting. They do not necessarily include every ballot cast.
Election officials must continue processing eligible ballots and completing required verification procedures before finalizing results.
In Summit County, the official results will be available following the election canvass scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17.
What is an election canvass?
A canvass is the formal process of reviewing election returns before results are approved as final.
According to Summit County, the governing body responsible for an election examines the results and determines whether to approve them or request additional information, clarification, or documentation.
Once approved, the results for that jurisdiction become official.
At the state level, Utah’s Board of Canvassers is scheduled to meet Nov. 23 to review and certify statewide election returns, according to Utah law. The board consists of the state auditor, state treasurer, and attorney general.
Where can voters follow results?
Summit County voters can find preliminary and updated election results through the county website.
For statewide election information, including Utah’s congressional races, state legislative contests, and statewide ballot measures, voters can visit the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s elections website.
Utah voters are deciding races for all four U.S. House seats, seats in the state Legislature and two proposed constitutional amendments, among other contests.
Voters can also check the status of their own mail or provisional ballot through Utah’s ballot tracking system.
Although some races may have clear leaders on election night, official results follow the completion of the canvassing process.
