Prescribed burns underway near Parleys Summit, Lambs Canyon

Smoke may be visible from Summit Park and the Snyderville Basin as crews reduce wildfire fuels
PARK CITY, Utah — Residents around Summit Park and the Snyderville Basin may see smoke this week as crews conduct prescribed burns in Parleys, Lambs and Millcreek canyons.
The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest began prescribed fire operations Sunday, Oct. 18, with work expected to continue through Tuesday, Oct. 20, or longer if weather conditions allow.
The planned burns include approximately 25 acres south of Interstate 80 near Parleys Summit and Summit Park, 64 acres along the south side of Lambs Canyon Road and 25 acres along Millcreek Canyon Road between the winter gate and Big Water Trailhead.
The U.S. Forest Service said prescribed fires are used to reduce overgrown vegetation and help protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas while the work is underway. The Forest Service has asked the public not to report the prescribed fires.
Some areas near the burn sites may be temporarily closed for public safety. Warning signs will be posted along affected roads and trails.
Crews will remain on scene while active burning is underway and will continue monitoring the areas after burning is complete.
Updates are available through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
