FRANCIS, Utah – The Yellow Lake Fire surged yesterday, fueled by wind gusts of up to 40 mph and low humidity. The fire has grown more than threefold, now spanning 15,106 acres, with only 7% containment. There are 471 personnel assigned to the fire.
Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for the North and West Forks of the Duchesne River, urging all residents, hunters, and recreationists to leave immediately. The Granddaddy Lakes area on the Ashley National Forest and Hanna were placed under a READY alert, advising residents to prepare for potential evacuations.
Firefighters continued to protect structures and worked to reduce fuels through controlled burns. Crews were able to hold Mill Hollow Road but faced challenges along the eastern and southern perimeters, where the fire is expected to continue growing. Aircraft were deployed to drop water and retardant but were limited by windy conditions and low visibility.
Fire officials stressed that those in evacuation zones should comply promptly to ensure their safety and that of first responders. Despite moderated weather today, the fire remains a significant threat, with further growth anticipated.
