Meet the people helping care for Summit County’s 910 Ranch

An Oct. 12 guided hike will introduce residents to volunteer ambassadors helping monitor the county’s largest conservation acquisition
PARK CITY, Utah — Summit County residents can get a closer look at the 910 Ranch next week during a guided fall hike with the volunteers helping monitor and care for the property.
The Summit County Lands and Natural Resources Department will host “Meet the Ambassadors: Hike on the 910 Ranch” on Monday, Oct. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Volunteer ambassadors will lead participants on a hike of up to 3 miles along dirt two-track roads, stopping along the way to talk about the landscape, recent work on the ranch and future recreation plans.
The county’s ambassador program helps support stewardship and education efforts on the property as officials continue developing long-term management and recreation plans.
Summit County completed its $55 million acquisition of the 8,588-acre ranch in January, marking the largest conservation acquisition in county history. The property spans portions of Summit and Morgan counties and includes forestland, wildlife habitat and watershed areas.
Since the acquisition, work on the ranch has included habitat restoration, invasive weed removal, removal of old barbed-wire fencing and other stewardship projects.
Public recreation is currently limited to East Canyon Road, the existing dirt road that runs through the ranch. The county is developing additional trails, parking and other recreation infrastructure as part of its long-term planning for the property.
Monday’s hike will give participants a chance to explore more of the ranch with county volunteers while learning about the work underway and what future public access may look like.
The route is not considered technical, but portions can be steep. Participants should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots and bring water, layers and sun protection.
The hike begins at the 910 Ranch, 10063 N. East Canyon Road. Registration is required through Summit County.
