OGDEN, Utah — Mitchell Schow, a 29-year-old Park City High School graduate who developed his game on Park City courses, will compete this weekend in the Zions Bank and Intermountain Health Utah Championship.

Play begins Thursday at Ogden Golf and Country Club, which is hosting the tournament for the second consecutive year. The Korn Ferry Tour event, now in its 35th year, has a $1 million purse, with $180,000 going to the winner Sunday.
During a practice round Tuesday, Schow sank a 55-foot putt. He was also seen teeing off on a practice hole ahead of the tournament.
The Korn Ferry Tour has its administrative office in Park City.
Schow, whose last name is pronounced “Skaw,” graduated from Park City High School, which he described to TownLift as having “a great athletic program.” He later attended the University of Utah, where he earned a degree in sports management.
He played golf at both schools and continues to play courses throughout Park City. One course, however, holds particular meaning for him.
It is not necessarily Jeremy Ranch, where he won a previous big tournament, or Park City Golf Club, where he enjoyed playing and where the Miners now train and compete. For Schow, Park Meadows Country Club stands out.
The Park City High School golf team practiced and competed there during his time at the school. Park Meadows also supported Schow after he qualified for a PGA Tour event several years ago.
“Then when I got into a PGA Tour event a couple of years ago, Park Meadows kindly helped me out and ever since then has been a great sponsor of mine,” Schow said.
The course remains close to his heart because of the role it played in developing his skills and love of golf.
The people Schow met through golf in Park City also remain an important part of his life. Several of his former high school teammates were members of his recent wedding party to his wife who works as a teacher.
Schow’s caddie attended high school with his father, who owns and operates the Mitchell Flooring company in Park City, where Schow has also worked for the family business over the years.
He remains in close contact with his former Park City High School golf coach who wins state titles for the sport.
Schow also has ties to Utah’s global golfer Tony Finau, whose foundation hosts an event at Utah Championship week. Schow said he considers himself fortunate to know Finau as both a fan and a friend.
The tournament comes days after a deadly brush fire near the course. The fire began Monday, burned 18 acres and forced neighborhood evacuations. A local man died in his home. The fire has since been fully contained and all stakeholders’ thoughts remain with the victim and his family.
Players have also faced another unusual element during practice rounds. As training jet flights from nearby Hill Air Force Base fly directly overhead, no one seems to mind the loud noise otherwise distracting at other golf competitions.
At the end of the Korn Ferry Tour season, the top 20 players will earn PGA Tour membership.
Golf Channel will broadcast all four rounds of the Utah Championship.
