Police Log: DUI arrests, erratic drivers, and a runaway exotic bird on Deer Valley Drive

A week of wildfire evacuations, early-morning noise complaints, and DUI arrests kept Summit County-area law enforcement busy, while Park City officers also responded to reports ranging from a loose exotic bird to an alleged harassment incident at a local business.

Monday, Aug. 10

Incident: Evacuation assistance
Deputies, troopers, DNR officers, Search and Rescue members and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the evacuation of Henefer due to the wildfire. Residents south of Main Street were evacuated. Park City police and Kamas City assisted with Summit County calls while deputies were committed to the evacuation.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A vehicle parked at a trailhead on Daly Avenue was reported with its headlights on and music blaring at nearly 4 a.m.

Incident: Citizen assist
A resident reported six children walking near a trailhead with camping gear and was concerned they might start a fire.

Incident: Traffic hazard
A baby deer that appeared to have been struck was reported lying in the middle of the intersection of Payday Drive and SR-224.

Tuesday, Aug. 11

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A vehicle parked near a Daly Avenue trailhead was reported with people outside talking loudly in the early morning hours, keeping a resident awake.

Incident: Citizen assist
A resident called police after a neighbor yelled at her daughter for eating popcorn on a balcony and making a mess.

Incident: Domestic violence
Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at Sunrise Lodge. An investigation resulted in probable cause to arrest a suspect on suspicion of kidnapping, aggravated assault, assault, threat of violence, and interruption of a communication device. The suspect also had a felony warrant from New Mexico and another warrant related to a missed court appearance involving domestic violence. The suspect was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Wednesday, Aug. 12

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A group of about five people were reported yelling, laughing, and making excessive noise in a Deer Valley Drive barbecue area before 5 a.m.

Incident: Parking problem
A truck was reported blocking another vehicle at the Empire Pass trailhead.

Incident: Property damage
A truck struck a transformer box on West Newpark Boulevard.

Incident: Traffic stop
Police stopped a vehicle on Main Street for stopping in the roadway to pick up rideshare customers.

Incident: DUI
Deputies responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and construction equipment. The driver showed signs of impairment, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The driver was medically cleared at a hospital before being booked into jail.

Thursday, Aug. 13

Incident: Non-injury accident
Two vehicles were involved in a crash on SR-248. Neither driver reported injuries, and the vehicles were not blocking traffic.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A woman reported that someone followed her from the Deer Valley Drive roundabout to the St. Regis, where she works.

Incident: Harassment
A panic alarm was activated at a business on Little Kate Road after a woman allegedly verbally harassed staff while using a hot tub.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A resident on Solamere Drive reported ongoing construction noise and said the work continued past the permitted hours.

Friday, Aug. 14

Incident: Attempt to locate
A blue-cab dump truck with no license plate was reported traveling toward Park City.

Incident: Attempt to locate
A black vehicle with dark-tinted windows reported nearly hit a group of people on Homestake Road before honking at them and continuing toward a nearby parking lot.

Incident: Animal problem
A bright yellow exotic bird was reported loose on the sidewalk along Deer Valley Drive. The caller believed it was someone’s pet.

Saturday, Aug. 15

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A loud hot tub party was reported on Park Avenue in the early morning hours.

Incident: Harassment
A caller reported people at a Pride event in the Park City Library coffee shop were allegedly filming and harassing attendees.

Incident: Attempt to locate
An Audi was reported swerving through traffic and traveling more than 50 mph on SR-224.

Incident: Citizen assist
A person reported that a friend dropped a phone into a construction pit near Squatters Brew Pub on Main Street.

Incident: Suspicious activity
A man selling magazines on Prospector Drive was reported for allegedly becoming verbally aggressive after a resident said she wanted to research the offer before buying.

Incident: Attempt to locate
A black vehicle was reported crossing the center line and driving erratically on Marsac Avenue.

Incident: Traffic stop
Police stopped a Tesla on Kearns Boulevard after it was reported speeding while operating in autopilot. The driver was reminded that they remain responsible for following traffic laws.

Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle on SR-224 after observing multiple driving-pattern violations. The driver displayed slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail for DUI.

Sunday, Aug. 16

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A resident on Lower Iron Horse Loop reported hearing very loud music from a nearby building.

Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle for expired registration and detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages within the previous hour and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. The driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail for DUI.
