New 30 acre wildfire starts on Heber-Kamas Ranger District, smoke may drift into Summit County

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A new wildfire ignited by lightning is burning on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, fire officials said the fire was first reported on Saturday evening at 9:07 p.m.
The Buck Basin Fire is located roughly 4 to 5 miles northwest of Currant Creek Reservoir, on the east side of Currant Creek Road. The fire is estimated at 30 acres and is burning in patches of timber.
Two engines, a Type 3 helicopter, a Type 1 helicopter and a single engine air tanker are working the fire, and a 20-person hand crew has been ordered, according to Utah Fire Info. No threats to structures or communities have been reported.
Summit County officials issued a smoke alert Sunday, noting that smoke from the fire may be visible in portions of the county. Residents are asked not to report a fire to emergency dispatch unless they see flames or a defined smoke column. There are no active fires in Summit County.
