Park City’s Cabriolet cabins will get second life as public art and keepsakes

PARK CITY, Utah — A piece of Park City’s skiing legacy is getting a second life, with retired Cabriolet cabins from Park City Mountain being offered for purchase through a partnership aimed at raising funds for community programs across Park City and Summit County.

The Park City Community Foundation announced Tuesday that they are exclusively selling the Vail Resorts/Canyons Village Cabriolet Cabins. All proceeds from the sale will support community initiatives.

Cabins are available for direct purchase starting at $10,000, with a limited number available. A silent auction for a limited number of Cabriolets will also happen in mid-June.

In partnership with the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, buyers will also have the option to participate in an initiative dubbed “Artful Cabriolets,” collaborating with a Utah-based artist to transform their cabin into a one-of-a-kind installation.

Pieces from the program will be installed throughout Canyons Village and on the mountain, creating a series of public art displays that blend Park City’s ski heritage with its local arts scene.

The Arts Council is currently accepting applications from artists interested in participating in the project. The deadline to apply is May 22, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

“We know the Cabriolet has been more than just a lift in our community,” said Deirdra Walsh, VP and COO of Park City Mountain. “While this chapter is coming to a close, we are incredibly proud that these cabins will continue to give back by supporting local nonprofits and helping strengthen the community they have long been part of.”

The Canyons Village Management Association first announced a proposal to replace the Cabriolet, which has operated since 2000, in July 2025.

The lift has long ferried riders from the free parking area to the Red Pine Gondola and Orange Bubble Express. That lot is now undergoing a major transformation, with construction underway on a five-level garage expected to add more than 1,800 parking spaces.

Canyons Village recently announced that parking in the newly constructed garage will cost $29.

Resort staff anticipate the new parking garage would increase demand for skiers and riders to access the resort via the Cabriolet lift, which they feared wouldn’t be able to accommodate the demand. The planned Canyons Village Skyway, which will replace the Cabriolet, is a 10-person enclosed, high-capacity gondola. The gondola will remain free for riders.
