Sheriff’s Office investigating vandalism at Temple Har Shalom

PARK CITY, Utah — The entrance sign at Temple Har Shalom along SR-224 was vandalized over Labor Day weekend, with a section of glass broken and the sign’s individual letters removed and left on the ground, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Temple Har Shalom leadership reported the damage Monday morning, and the Sheriff’s Office said the damage appeared consistent with intentional damage.

“Summit County is better than this,” said Sgt. Skyler Talbot, spokesperson for Summit County Sheriff’s Office, said in a statement to TownLift. “Intentionally damaging another person’s property is unacceptable and targeting an individual or group because of their religion makes the conduct even more concerning. Every member of our community should feel safe and respected. The Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate acts of intimidation, harassment, or discrimination directed at members of our community.”

Temple leadership sent a message to members of the congregation informing them of the damage and confirming that the synagogue building itself was not damaged.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was no other damage to the synagogue or surrounding grounds.

The investigation remains active, and no information about a suspect or possible motive has been released.
