Park City police warn residents of new bank card scam

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Police Department is warning residents about a new scam in which fraudsters pose as bank employees to obtain debit and credit card information.

According to police, scammers tell victims their debit or credit card has been compromised and instruct them to cut up the card while leaving the chip intact. Victims are then told to mail the chip or allow someone to pick it up in person.

Police emphasized that banks and credit unions will never ask customers to share their PIN or full account information, nor will they send employees to a customer’s home to collect a card.

Residents are advised not to provide personal or banking information over the phone or by email to unsolicited callers or messages.

Anyone who receives a suspicious request for banking information should hang up and contact their bank directly using an official phone number. Police also encourage residents to contact the department with questions or concerns about potential scams.
