PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming recipients have been issued a traffic ticket.
According to police, the messages may include hyperlinks that appear to use a government web address ending in “.gov,” but the texts and webpages are not legitimate.
Officials emphasized that law enforcement agencies will never call or text individuals requesting payment for tickets or other violations.
Police are urging residents not to click on suspicious links, provide personal or financial information, or respond to unknown senders.
“If you receive one of these messages, delete it immediately and report it as spam,” the department said in a public notice.
Authorities are also encouraging community members to share the warning with friends and family to help prevent others from becoming victims of the scam.
Residents who believe they may have interacted with a fraudulent message are encouraged to monitor their financial accounts and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
