Police Log: Road rage assault, dirt biker rescue, loose sheep

A road rage assault that led to an arrest, a Search and Rescue response for an injured dirt biker, and multiple DUI arrests highlighted another busy week for law enforcement in Summit County.

Park City police also responded to recurring reports of loose sheep along SR-248, traffic hazards caused by storm runoff and signal issues, and complaints ranging from graffiti and loud music to an intoxicated man harassing diners on Main Street.

Monday, July 20

Incident: DUI
Deputies arrested a driver for DUI after locating a vehicle on eastbound I-80 that had reportedly been weaving and nearly striking a concrete barrier. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Tuesday, July 21

Incident: Business assist
A business on Shadow Ridge Road reported a contractor was repeatedly using its dumpster to dispose of construction materials.

Wednesday, July 22

Incident: Livestock problem
A loose sheep was reported near mile marker 2 on SR-248.

Incident: Hit and run
A driver reported a semi sideswiped the vehicle’s mirror on eastbound U.S. 40 before leaving the scene.

Incident: Traffic hazard
Two manhole covers near Kearns Boulevard and Park Avenue were displaced by heavy rain runoff. An officer repositioned both covers without incident.

Incident: Criminal mischief
A caller reported a man spray-painting behind Swede Alley near the Brew Pub parking lot.

Incident: Traffic hazard
Police received a report that the traffic signal at Park Avenue and Deer Valley Drive was not functioning.

Thursday, July 23

Incident: Assault
Deputies arrested a suspect after a road rage incident that began at the Silver Summit roundabout and escalated into an alleged assault on Pace Drive. South Jordan police assisted in locating the suspect.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A resident reported a high-pitched squealing noise coming from a building on Park Avenue that had persisted since the previous day.

Incident: Traffic stop
Police stopped a driver on Main Street for impeding traffic while picking up rideshare passengers.

Incident: Traffic stop
An officer stopped a vehicle after observing a passenger hanging out of a window while traveling on Main Street.

Friday, July 24

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A resident reported loud music coming from the Prospector Avenue area shortly after midnight.

Incident: Livestock problem
Another loose sheep was reported wandering near SR-248.

Incident: DUI
Deputies arrested a driver for suspected DUI after stopping a speeding vehicle on westbound I-80. Fresh damage was observed on the vehicle, though it was unknown where the damage occurred.

Incident: Intoxication
Deputies arrested an intoxicated and disorderly man who allegedly refused to leave a private event in the area after repeated requests from the homeowner and law enforcement.

Saturday, July 25

Incident: Search and Rescue
Search and Rescue teams responded to assist an injured dirt biker near Smith and Morehouse and safely extracted the rider from the mountain.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A caller at Deer Pond reported catching a duck with a fishhook lodged in its foot and requested assistance.

Incident: Unwanted person
Police responded to reports of a possibly intoxicated man harassing guests dining on Main Street.

Sunday, July 26

Incident: Livestock problem
Four or five loose sheep were reported near Kearns Boulevard and Richardson Flat Road.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported someone riding an illegal motorcycle through the lower parking lot at Park City Mountain.
