Eastbound Kearns Boulevard traffic shift begins Monday as construction project advances

PARK CITY, Utah — Drivers traveling along Kearns Boulevard will see new traffic impacts beginning early Monday morning as the city’s Transmission Line Undergrounding project moves into its next phase.

Starting at 5 a.m. on Monday, eastbound traffic on Kearns Boulevard will be diverted at Park Avenue as crews begin Phase 2 of the project. The detour is expected to remain in place through April 19. Officials say access to local businesses will stay open throughout the construction period.

The work is part of a joint effort between Park City Municipal and Rocky Mountain Power to bury high-voltage transmission lines that currently run overhead through the Bonanza Park area.

The project, which was approved by the Park City Council in 2024, is intended to improve multiple long-term community goals. According to city officials, undergrounding the lines will add available cemetery plots, reduce wildfire risk, remove transmission towers from the area’s view corridor, and eliminate a 60-foot aerial restriction that has limited redevelopment potential on the Bonanza Park 5-Acre Site.

“This project is off to a great start, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work through these traffic impacts,” said John Robertson, Park City engineer.

During construction, traffic patterns will shift around key corridors including Kearns Boulevard and Park Avenue, where detours are expected to temporarily reroute drivers.

Residents and visitors with questions about the project can contact a dedicated hotline managed by the contractor at 385-283-6455.
