PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Municipal is warning of an “elevated construction season” this summer, with multiple projects set to impact travel in and around town.
Next on the list is a city-led project that will affect traffic on Kearns Boulevard from Tuesday, April 7, through mid-May, according to a recent release.
Park City Municipal, in partnership with Rocky Mountain Power, are beginning the first phase of undergrounding high-voltage transmission lines that currently run overhead through the Bonanza Park area.
City officials say undergrounding the lines will create additional cemetery space, reduce wildfire risk, remove transmission towers from the area’s view corridor, and eliminate a 60-foot aerial restriction that has limited redevelopment on the Bonanza Park 5-Acre Site.
“This is an important long-term investment in Park City’s infrastructure, and we know the work this spring will require some patience from drivers and neighbors,” said John Robertson, City Engineer. “Short-term disruptions are expected, but the benefits will be felt for years to come.”
Drivers should expect lane reductions and detours throughout the project:
- April 7–12: Westbound traffic on Kearns Boulevard will be diverted at Bonanza Drive.
- April 13–17: Eastbound traffic will be diverted at Park Avenue
- April 20–May 15: One lane in each direction between Park Avenue and Bonanza Drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- May 18–22: Repaving work on Kearns Boulevard
Work will shift to Woodbine Way in July, according to the city, with substation work continuing through August and September.
Phase I is scheduled for completion in October 2026. Phase II — which will bring the underground lines into service and remove existing transmission towers — is expected to wrap up in late spring 2027.
Access to local businesses, including the Snow Creek Shopping Center, will remain open throughout construction.
The Kearns Boulevard project is one of several underway as part of a busy construction season. Other major efforts include High Valley Transit’s SR-224 Bus Rapid Transit project and Utah Department of Transportation improvements along I-80.
