Powder Mountain announces private skiing for homeowners

'In order to pay our bills, we need to sell more real estate, and to do that we are introducing private homeowner-only skiing a year from now.' Powder Mountain CEO Reed Hastings

EDEN, Utah — Powder Mountain, under the guidance of CEO Reed Hastings announced the resort is shifting towards a blend of public and private skiing experiences. The addition of private skiing is an effort to address financial challenges while preserving the resorts unique charm.

Hastings said in a release “In order to pay our bills, we need to sell more real estate, and to do that we are introducing private homeowner-only skiing a year from now. We will be designating the Village and Mary’s lifts, which serve beginner and intermediate terrain, plus a new lift on Raintree, for this private skiing, starting a year from now.”

The change is aimed at sustaining Powder Mountain’s commitment to being “uncrowded and unspoiled.” The plan involves significant investment in the resort’s infrastructure, including a $20 million injection for the enhancement of three public lifts. Hastings emphasized that this blend of public and private skiing is essential for Powder Mountain to remain independent and avoid joining multi-resort pass models or selling to larger conglomerates.

Summer 2024 lift upgrades include:

  • A hi-speed detachable quad upgrade on Paradise, replacing a fixed-grip quad
  • A fixed-grip quad upgrade on Timberline, replacing a 50-year-old fixed-grip double
  • A new fixed-grip quad from the base of Timberline to the top of Lightning Ridge, opening up vast new lift-served intermediate and expert terrain, and enabling people to ski from Timberline down to Sundown. We’ll look to move our in-bounds cat route to somewhere else nearby.
