Local Business Spotlight: Mountain High Outfitters’ Grand Opening celebration
PARK CITY, Utah— In May 2022, Mountain High Outfitters opened its Park City branch in the Canyons Village. The outdoor lifestyle retail store specializes in footwear, clothing, and accessories. The Grand Opening Celebration this Friday and Saturday feature local brands and goodies.
The founder and owner of Mountain High Outfitters, Christopher Groom, explains why he decided to open a location in Park City. “This location is ideal because of the resort atmosphere and the outdoor lifestyle community, which is what we do well and are excited to outfit,” he said.
Groom came to the retail industry via his ambitions to be self-employed. “I knew at a young age I wanted to work for myself after seeing my dad grinding it out six days a week growing up working for another. My first retail gig was in downtown Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in an outdoor lifestyle store after university. This opened my eyes to new opportunities and led me to this future.”
Groom founded Mountain High Outfitters in the south and witnessed the brand flourish throughout a couple of decades. “Our journey began in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1999, and we have grown to 18 open locations predominantly in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida,” Groom said.
Groom’s vision is to offer specialized items to outfit folks for adventure, leisure, and travel. “I hope to bring a unique flair to Park City with many brands, not in the market or underrepresented. We are a great footwear resource and a place to find unique lifestyle brands and styles of apparel and accessories,” he said.
The big Grand Opening is this weekend, September 23-24, and features local brands, prizes, and exciting ways to introduce people to the new store.
“We are having a ribbon cutting with the Park City Chamber of Commerce on Friday (September 23) at 2:00 pm,” said Groom.
Attendees can participate in an Altra footwear demo (a Utah-based brand) and a Hoka footwear demo. The Grand Opening also highlights Utah brands like Khul apparel and Threawallets.
In addition to checking out local brands, participants of the opening day festivities have a chance to win prizes. “We are giving out $25 gift cards and swag bags to the first 100 guests and will have drinks and food and a signup to win a $750 giveaway,” Groom said.
