Canyons Village Cabriolet free parking reduced by 50% next week as garage construction begins

The first phase of fencing will reduce Cabriolet lot parking by 50%. A second phase from April 1–20 will further reduce capacity, with the lot closing entirely from April 21 to December 2025 for construction.

PARK CITY, Utah – Construction begins next week on a new parking structure in the Park City Mountain Canyons Village Cabriolet lot, free parking will be significantly reduced starting March 17 for the remainder of the ski season.

The first phase of fencing on March 17 will reduce available free parking in the Cabriolet lot by 50% during this phase of construction. A second phase, running April 1–20, will further reduce capacity, and the lot will close entirely to guest parking from April 21 through December 2025 for parking structure construction.

When asked, resort officials did not confirm whether parking in the new garage will be free or paid, stating that details are still being finalized.

With fewer available spots this season, resort officials are urging guests to use public transit, park-and-ride lots, or carpooling to help reduce congestion. Once complete the garage and congruous surface parking will provide approximately the same number of spaces currently available at all Canyons Village surface level parking with 1840 spaces.

The new garage will be used to consolidate parking for the entire Canyons Village area, meaning that the upper lots, closer to the base area will eventually be redeveloped as those parking spaces are relocated to the new Parking Structure in the Cabriolet lot. The project aims to improve long-term traffic flow and connectivity. The plans include a public transportation, pick up/drop off zone, and a pedestrian plaza.

Key Parking Changes for Winter 2024/25:

  • Cabriolet lot capacity reduced by 50% starting March 17, 2025– once full, guests will be redirected to other lots.
  • Day parking attendants will guide drivers to shuttle-connected lots.
  • Drop-off & pickup at the Cabriolet lot, marked by a pink flag.
  • Carpool parking (four or more people per vehicle) available in Lot 4 (Upper Lot), marked by a light blue flag.
  • ADA parking in the Cabriolet lot with designated spaces.
  • Additional parking at Park City High School (on select weekends/holidays) and Park-n-Ride locations at Richardson Flat and Ecker Hill.

Resort officials acknowledged the temporary inconvenience but emphasized the long-term benefits stating, “We understand this is an adjustment, but this project will ultimately reduce congestion and improve access to the mountain.”

Planing commission discussions indicated that the project would be completed in three phases. TCFC has estimated that the construction of the first phases of the parking garage project, with the parking garage and pedestrian plaza ideally being completed in time for the 2025-26 ski season. The timing of the third phase of construction including expansion of the public gathering space and commercial opportunities has not yet been determined.

The new structure, set to open alongside the Sunrise Gondola in Winter 2025/26, will offer covered parking, improved pedestrian access, and sustainability features. In the meantime, visitors should plan ahead and expect reduced free parking options at Canyons Village the remainder of this season.

Editors Note: Resort officials have clarified they do not know the number of parking spots in the Cabriolet lot. The article has been updated to reflect a 50% reduction in available spaces, removing the previously cited figure of 920 spots.
