SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County Search and Rescue was called out on Monday after a snowmobiler was buried following an avalanche on a north-facing slope in the Uinta Mountains near Whitney Reservoir, per KUTV.
Lt. Andrew Wright with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office told KUTV the man was out with a group when the avalanche occurred, and that members of his group were able to dig him out to safety.
The man has reportedly not suffered any injuries.
A medical helicopter was initially called to the scene but turned around after the man denied assistance.
The Utah Avalanche Center currently has the Uintas listed under a ‘Considerable’ danger rating.
