Hazardous Waste Collection Day set for April 25 at new Park City location

PARK CITY, Utah — Summit County residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household materials later this month during the annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day, set for Saturday, April 25.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Silver King Parking Lot, located at the base of Park City Mountain Resort at 1498 Lowell Ave. Officials emphasized that the event has moved this year and will not take place at the Cabriolet Parking Lot.

Organizers say the event plays a critical role in protecting the local environment by keeping toxic substances out of landfills and waterways.

“One of our primary goals is to keep toxic chemicals and heavy metals out of our environment,” organizers said. “When materials like mercury, lead, and pesticides end up in the landfill, they can leach into the ground and contaminate drinking water.”

The collection day is open to Summit County residents only, and businesses will not be permitted to participate.

Accepted items include a wide range of household hazardous materials: paints, solvents, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, gasoline, household cleaners, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, and acids. The event will also accept electronic waste including computers, TVs, phones, and cables, as well as mercury-containing items, pharmaceuticals, and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Additional items accepted include propane and white gas cylinders, PFAS ski wax, and mattresses, which will require a $20 per-item fee.

In partnership with Bicycle Collective and Park City Sunrise Rotary, organizers will also collect bicycles in any condition. Usable bikes will be refurbished and sold to support charitable programs or donated to individuals in need, while unusable parts will be recycled.

The event is a collaboration between Recycle Utah, Park City Municipal, Summit County, the Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District, and Park City Sunrise Rotary.
