Intermountain Healthcare will require all caregivers to be vaccinated

SALT LAKE CITY — Intermountain Healthcare, the largest employer in Utah, will require all of its caregivers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The move comes after President Joe Biden announced in September that all employers with more than 100 workers require their employees to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly.

“This is about caring for people,” said Dr. Mark Briesacher, Chief Physician Executive at Intermountain.

Briesacher said 75% of caregivers are fully vaccinated as of Wednesday. He said they will keep an “open mind” regarding medical and religious exemptions (exemption forms will be required by Dec. 1).

Intermountain already requires employees to be vaccinated against several illnesses, like measles.

The company expects employees to be in the vaccination process by January 5 (at least one dose).

If employees do not comply and do not qualify for any exemptions, they will have to leave the company on February 9.
