South Summit School District Names Interim Superintendent

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah. — The South Summit School District announced on Nov. 13 that Steve Hirase, former Murray City School District Superintendent, will serve as their interim Superintendent beginning Jan. 1 when Superintendent Sorenson steps officially down from his role.

“I look forward to being part of a small community again. I always enjoy my association with staff and know everybody in the district has an important role to play,” Hirase shared in a statement by the South Summit School District. “I hope to be able to spend some time at the schools and get to know the staff. After meeting the few I have, I already know it’s going to be hard to say goodbye at the end of June.”

According to the statement, Hirase will be leading the District through welcoming new board members, helping in the search for a permanent replacement superintendent, budgeting for the next school year and helping manage the teaching and learning processes at four schools amidst a pandemic.
