Back-To-TED by TEDxParkCity

Ever wondered what the inside of the room looks like at the annual TED Conference in Vancouver? How many bloopers were cut out to create those seamless talks? Do you look regularly at the site to see when fresh talks are posted?  Is it a wee bit overwhelming to choose? Do you wish someone would just curate the best ones for you?

TEDxParkCity will present an evening of talks on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Eccles Center in Park City. The evening begins promptly at 6:00 PM. There will be approximately three hours of programming, which includes a dinner break. Doors open at 5:30.

For more than 18 years TEDxParkCity organizer Teri Orr has been “in the room where it happens.” Since 2008 she has created experiences locally that show the best of those talks from the TED conference, reflecting the definition of Technology, Entertainment, and Design. 

“As exciting and eye-opening as it is to attend the conference, the magic of TED is in the way we gather locally, for TEDxParkCity,” Orr said. “Our events are designed to spark a different kind of conversation, as we look at our community through a wider lens.”

The evening at the Eccles will feature topics including AI, saving species on the planet, and the backstory of the guy who designed the inside of The Sphere in Las Vegas for U2. “We’ll have a break to chew on the ideas we’ve just heard—and some pizza, thanks to our friends at Red Banjo,” she said. “After that, we’ll head back in for more talks.”

Orr, now working with co-organizer Bari Nan Rothchild, has also created local events with local speakers from TEDx Women to TEDx Climate Change, to their favorite—
TEDx Youth-—where local students learn how to stand up and deliver their own 

TED talks.

“We are looking forward to sharing the best of the 2024 talks with the community in the spectacular theater space of the Eccles Center,  on the giant screen and fabulous sound system used for the premier films of the Sundance Film Festival,” Rothchild said. “The subject matter will surprise you, give you a new appreciation of our natural world, annoy or anger you perhaps, but certainly engage and entertain you.”  

Orr added, the talks are from the actual live feed at the conference as it happened. “There are bloopers as well as brilliance,” she said. “You may even find some brilliance in the bloopers. The subject matter will surprise you, give you a new appreciation of our natural world, annoy or anger you perhaps, but certainly engage and entertain you.”

Tickets are $35; Red Banjo pizza and beverages at the break are included. Join a room of folks who love Big Ideas. This event will be limited to 300 people to allow for an intimate experience and conversations to happen.
