Ski Utah opens applications for Discover Winter program, offering lessons to new skiers

PARK CITY, Utah — Utah adults who have never learned to ski or snowboard can apply for Ski Utah’s Discover Winter program, which provides lessons, equipment, and transportation to help make winter sports more accessible. The 2027 schedule includes two options in the Park City area.
The program will return for the 2026-27 season, offering four ski or snowboard lessons during January and February at participating Utah resorts. Participants also receive rental equipment, winter clothing, and transportation from designated pickup locations.
There is no fee to apply, but applicants who are selected and accept a spot in the 2027 program must pay a $99 participation fee, according to Ski Utah’s registration page.
The program is open to applicants who are at least 18 years old as of Jan. 1, 2027. It is intended for adults who are new to skiing or snowboarding, including those who have tried the sports a few times but need additional instruction.
After completing all four lessons, participants receive a Ski Utah Yeti Pass, which provides one day of skiing or snowboarding at each participating Utah resort.
Discover Winter also offers sessions in the Salt Lake, Provo, and Ogden areas.
Making skiing more accessible
Ski Utah introduced Discover Winter in 2021 to help more people experience skiing and snowboarding and feel welcome in Utah’s mountain communities.
The program works with resort partners and community organizations to reduce common barriers to participation, including the cost of lessons, equipment, clothing, and transportation.
Applicants are asked about their current skiing or snowboarding ability, their preferred activity, and their availability. The application also asks about affiliations with participating community groups, universities, and other organizations.
Those interested can review the schedule and submit an application through Ski Utah’s Discover Winter registration page.
