Huber Grove Apple Harvest canceled after spring freeze destroys crop

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — Wasatch Mountain State Park announced they have canceled the annual apple harvest at Huber Grove.

Park officials noted a lack of winter snow, followed by freezing temperatures in the spring, “significantly impacted” the apple crop, making it impossible to hold the traditional event.

“We appreciate your understanding and hope you’ll continue to visit and enjoy Huber Grove throughout the year,” the park said in their announcement.

The announcement comes as orchards throughout the state had their crops decimated by unseasonable spring temperatures. After an unusually warm March prompted trees to begin blossoming, spring freezes destroyed the early blooms and ruined the chances of a fruit harvest.

Governor Spencer Cox declared a state of emergency in May for ten counties where the freezing temperatures damaged crop production, though the declaration didn’t extend to Wasatch County.

At least 80 trees grow in Huber Grove, with half of those dating back to the orchard’s establishment in the late 1800s. Only about five or six of those trees have any apples this year, KSL reported.

Wasatch Mountain State Park was recently ranked as one of the most visited state parks in Utah.
