Stein Collection chef Zane Holmquist to retire after more than two decades

PARK CITY, Utah — Zane Holmquist, the longtime corporate chef who helped shape Stein Collection’s culinary program for more than two decades, will retire at the end of 2026, the company announced Tuesday.

Holmquist, vice president of food and beverage operations and corporate chef, will be succeeded by Jason Berrett, who has been promoted to vice president of food and beverage, and Jonathon Miller, the company’s new director of culinary operations and corporate chef.

“It has been an absolute privilege to have Chef Zane’s vision, leadership and culinary expertise shape the unrivaled culinary experiences for which Stein Collection is renowned,” Stein Collection President and CEO Russ Olsen said in a statement.

Holmquist has worked in the food and beverage industry for more than 48 years. His career has included an appearance at the James Beard House in New York City, and his cooking has been featured in Bon Appétit, Sunset, SKI, Salt Lake Magazine and Triathlete.

He was also named chef of the year by the Utah Restaurant Association. During his tenure, The Glitretind restaurant at Stein Eriksen Lodge maintained a Forbes Four-Star rating and received honors from Wine Spectator, Distinguished Restaurants of North America and other organizations.

After retiring, Holmquist plans to move to southern France with his wife. He said he plans to continue cooking, road biking and competing in triathlons.

Berrett joined Stein Collection in 2001 as a restaurant manager and became director of food and beverage in 2016. The Utah- and Wyoming-raised hospitality executive is also a farmer, gardener, home brewer and cider maker, according to the company.

Miller joined Stein Collection in 2005 as a kitchen manager and was promoted to executive chef in 2016. Born in Indiana and raised in Pittsburgh, Miller will now oversee culinary operations across the company’s properties.

The Stein Collection includes Stein Eriksen Lodge, The Chateaux Deer Valley, Stein Eriksen Residences and other Park City hospitality properties.
