Rocky Canyon Fire moves toward Henefer, spots across SR-65 as evacuations expand

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Rocky Canyon Fire has expanded on its northeast side and is moving toward Henefer, prompting the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to issue new evacuation orders for areas south of the town, Utah Fire Info said Sunday.

The fire has also spotted across SR-65, heading northeast toward the area between Henefer and Echo Lake along the I-84 corridor.

All residences between Hog Back Summit and West Henefer Road are in “Go” status and should evacuate now. Officials told residents to follow designated evacuation routes, not to delay to gather additional belongings, and to call 911 if assistance is needed to evacuate. A temporary shelter has been opened at the Henefer LDS Chapel, 709 N. Main St. in Henefer.

Road closures have been expanded along SR-65, West Henefer Road and near East Canyon Reservoir to support firefighter operations, including planned firing operations. Officials asked the public to stay out of closed areas and follow all directions from law enforcement and fire personnel.

Residents in affected areas should follow all evacuation orders and remain alert for additional updates, and avoid the area whenever possible so emergency crews can safely conduct fire suppression operations. Officials also asked the public to share this information with family, friends and neighbors who may be affected.
