Summit County evacuation alert sent in error to Park City and Summit County residents

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A “Go” evacuation notice sent to cell phones across Park City and the South Summit Fire District on Sunday was issued in error according to Skyler Talbot with the Summit County Sheriff’s office. The alert applies only to residents on West Henefer Road and East Canyon Road. Anyone else who received it can dismiss it.

“There are no pre-evacuation or evacuation notices for South Summit Fire District,” the South Summit Fire District said, noting Summit County sent the alert by mistake. Park City residents also received the erroneous notification. There are no evacuation orders or advisories for Park City.

Evacuation orders from the Rocky Canyon Fire currently apply to the following areas only:

• All residences between Hog Back Summit and West Henefer Road in Summit County, which are in “Go” status and should evacuate now.
• A temporary shelter is open at the Henefer LDS Chapel, 709 N. Main St. in Henefer.Residents from White’s Crossing to East Canyon Dam in Morgan County, also in “Go” status. A shelter is available at the MHS Trojan Century Center.
• The north end of East Canyon State Park, including Dixie Creek Campground and day-use areas.
  Residents outside these areas do not need to evacuate at this time.
