HENEFER, Utah — All evacuation statuses tied to the Rocky Canyon Fire have been lifted in Summit County as containment reached 100% within county boundaries, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire has burned 16,464 acres and was 85% contained Monday evening, according to the latest incident update.

Fire managers said the increase in heat Monday was mostly within the interior of the fire and remained within the planned perimeter.

Rising temperatures and stronger winds Monday afternoon caused some previously dormant areas to begin smoking and torching. That activity is expected to continue over the next several shifts as the fire moves toward previously established control lines and firing operations designed to stop its progression.

Smoke was visible across the area Monday afternoon and is expected to remain visible for the next several days as pockets of interior heat burn out and cool.

Despite the increased containment, firefighters and heavy equipment remain active on the mountain. Crews are patrolling contained areas, mopping up along fire lines and repairing areas affected by suppression work.

All residents in Summit County who had previously been under Ready, Set or Go evacuation status for the Rocky Canyon Fire are now cleared from those evacuation designations.

While evacuations have been lifted, some road closures remain in place and firefighting efforts are ongoing. Residents should continue paying attention to conditions in areas affected by the fire.

The burn scar also continues to carry an elevated risk of flooding and debris flows, particularly as conditions change. Residents are encouraged to use caution and remain aware of changing conditions as they return to their normal routines.
