PARK CITY, Utah — Nearly 300 handwritten notes from Park City residents were delivered to the hands of firefighters and first responders working the Rocky Canyon fire in Summit and Morgan counties.

The cards were collected Wednesday morning at a table outside the Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center, where community members were invited to write messages of encouragement for crews working the fire.

Park City resident Michelle Rankin organized the effort after hearing during an Incident Command briefing that community members could help support firefighters by sending notes that could be included with lunch bags and food deliveries going to crews.

Rankin said she delivered roughly 300 cards Wednesday to the fire station in Henefer, where they will be distributed to firefighters and first responders.

The notes were “well received,” Rankin said, adding that crews are grateful for the outpouring of kindness from the community.

The effort gave Park City residents a simple way to show their support for the firefighters and other first responders working long shifts on the fire.
