PARK CITY, Utah — Fans are getting inspired from the FIFA World Cup to show their newfound or existing passion for the sport of soccer. Park City Rec is offering one way to continue the captivating action after the global tournament ends with their annual Social Soccer league for adults.
Prioritizing play over competition, Social Soccer is designed around a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all levels.
“Aiming to bring people together, promote active lifestyles, and introduce new participants to the sport,” PC Rec states. “Games are structured for maximum enjoyment, emphasizing comaraderie, fair play, and sportsmanship.”
Enjoyment over winning is the name of the game, and unsportsmanlike conduct will be met with a zero-tolerance policy.
Some changes are being implemented in the program this summer, including the fact that participants will no longer be registering as a team. Striving to create evenly matched teams, participants will self-rank their skill levels. During the registration process, individuals may indicate one player with whom they’d like to be teammates. While there’s no guarantee, administrators will attempt to place both on the same team.
Each team will play eight games throughout the season, and there will be no tournament play. Providing refs is the goal, but if none are available on a given day, PC Rec supervisors will step up to officiate.
The season runs from August 13 to October 1 and games will be played on Thursday nights between 6 – 9 p.m. and are planned to take place at the Quinns Jct. Sports Complex on the turf field.
Registration is currently open for $50, and on August 8 the late registration fee will bump up to $60.
