SNAPPED: US-189 paving continues as Provo Canyon widening project advances

PROVO CANYON, Utah — Paving progress continues on US-189 through Provo Canyon as the Utah Department of Transportation works on a road widening project that will create two lanes in both directions from Provo to Heber.

After a series of road closures through the summer, UDOT has said that “crews will continue paving operations behind barriers, and no additional lane closures are anticipated.”

As work continues through the canyon, UDOT is reminding drivers to follow the 45 mph speed limit, expect reduced lane and shoulder widths with concrete barriers and orange barrels, avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road, and watch for crews working along the shoulders and slow trucks entering and exiting the roadway.

Deer Creek State Park remains open and accessible during construction.

Crews have also been working on the future undercrossing to Deer Creek State Park. This will go under the existing road to create a safe way for visitors to get from a new parking lot to the park.
