Summit County seeks public comment on updated active transportation plan through April 15

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County is accepting public comment through April 15 on a draft update to its Active Transportation Plan, a countywide effort to refine priorities for walking and biking routes, connections, and safety improvements before the plan goes to the County Council for approval.

The updated plan builds on the county’s 2019 Active Transportation Plan, which established guidance for new bicycling and walking routes, upgrades to existing facilities, recommended phasing, design standards, and potential funding opportunities. County officials began the update process in summer 2025 and are now asking residents and visitors to review the proposed 2026 recommendations and submit comments through an online story map.

Community members can leave feedback in the “Network Comments” section of the draft network page. After the April 15 deadline, the county plans to finalize the active transportation network and complete the broader plan.

Active transportation refers to human-powered mobility, including walking, cycling, and non-mechanized wheelchair use. The update aims to improve connectivity, safety, accessibility, and sustainability across the county’s transportation network.

The new plan places particular emphasis on areas outside Park City Municipal, including eastern Summit County, as officials work toward a countywide network linking communities from east to west and north to south.

Summit County also plans to publish its first active transportation scorecard, which will be updated every two years to track progress toward county goals.

The draft recommendations and comment link are available on the county’s active transportation planning page. The final plan will be presented to the County Council after the comment period closes.
