Turn N Burn returns for its 10th anniversary at Powder Mountain

Turn N Burn returns for its 10th year this season. This banked slalom event is a Powder Mountain favorite year after year Photo: Powder Mountain.
EDEN, Utah —Ten years ago, a banked slalom event took root on the slopes of Powder Mountain. What started as a niche gathering for snowboard racers has grown into one of the most anticipated events on the mountain’s calendar. This March, Turn N Burn returns for its 10th anniversary — and if the first nine years are any indication, it’s going to be worth every second of the wait.
Registration is now open for Turn N Burn 10, set for Saturday, March 21. Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome to compete, with separate divisions for groms, teens, and adults ensuring that the whole family can get in on the action.
Get a head start on Friday, March 20
The fun kicks off a day early with Turn N Burn’s first-ever Course Practice Day. From noon to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20, registered riders can get on the course, dial in their line, and prep their gear before the competition begins. Early check-in runs from noon to 6 p.m. at The Backyard.
The Powder Mountain Tune Shop will also be offering 50% off tunes during Course Practice Day — a not-so-subtle nudge to make sure your board is running fast before race day. Side bets are not only allowed but strongly encouraged.
Race day: high stakes, serious prizes
Saturday is where the real action happens. Turn N Burn’s banked slalom course rewards technical skill and raw speed in equal measure, sending competitors carving through a series of bermed turns that test every edge of a rider’s ability.
Podium finishers across all divisions will take home prizes, but the biggest rewards go to the top of the leaderboard. First-place winners in each division earn the coveted Turn N Burn champion vest — a trophy that has become one of the most recognized symbols in the event’s history. On top of that, $500 cash will be awarded to the first-place finisher in both the Men’s and Women’s Open Divisions.
And for anyone who loses a side bet? Let’s just say the organizers have something special planned.

More than a race
Even if you’re not strapping in to compete, Turn N Burn is worth the trip to the mountain. The Vendor Village, located near the Timberline Lodge base area, will be open throughout the day with partner offerings and the chance to score some gear. The atmosphere at the base area — riders hyping each other up, spectators cheering from the sidelines — is its own kind of event.
That energy, year after year, is what has made Turn N Burn a fixture on Powder Mountain’s calendar. The event has grown, the prize pool has grown, and the sense of community around it has only deepened.
Don’t wait to register
Spots fill up every year, and registration for Turn N Burn 10 is open now. Entry fees are $35 for Open Divisions and $25 for all other divisions. The Crab Grab One-Footed Race is free to enter. Competitors can also snag discounted lift tickets on race day for $129. Note that participants may enter only one division — Amateur or Open — with the exception of the One-Footed Race, and helmets are required to compete.
Whether you’re a seasoned banked slalom racer chasing your first vest or a grom just looking for a reason to send it, this is the event for you.
